TWO MEN AND A CELLO – Tunisia 2002
Matthias Hermann Ibach & Philippe Olza
TWO MEN AND A CELLO, a performance that is continually developing, has now turned its attention to the Maghreb.
At the I.E.T.M. Informal European Theatre Meeting in Lille Lassaad Ben Abdallah (Director of CNDAS Centre National des Arts Dramatiques et Scénique d'El Kef) extended an invitation to Ibach and Olza to perform at "Les 24 heures du Théâtre".
Six performances took place in March 2002.
• El Kef: a town in North West Tunisia on the border to Algeria. Large audiences attended the "Les 24 heures Du Théâtre" festival. One performance took place at dusk in the Roman basilica at the foot of the Kasbah. A further performance took place late at night in the centre dramatique.
• Jendouba: in Tabarka, the government quarter. The Conservatoire régional de musique organised a performance in the Centre Culturel Omar Saidi which sold out to a vociferously enthusiastic audience.
• Sfax: a town in South Eastern Tunisia. The performance was adapted for the Centre National des Arts Dramatique et Scénique, once a cinema. The IFC Institut français de coopération assisted in the organisation of the performance.
• Tunis: TWO MEN AND A CELLO was adapted for two different venues in the capital. The first performance took place in an industrial building which also is home to a library. The second in the vault of the ancient Tahar Haddad stables in the Medina in Tunis. Both events were organized in cooperation with the Embassy of Switzerland, the IFC Institut français de coopération and the Goethe Institute Tunis.
