MADAME MONSIEUR – Istituto Svizzero di Roma 1998

Press

CORRIERE DELLA SERA 22.10.1998 (Carmela Piccione: Adam and Eve? Dancing in the Garden of Eden)

(…) A man and a woman, a metaphorical Adam and Eve, dance. The performance had its debut in Rome, a veritable preview before commencing a long tour of major European capitals.

NEUE ZÜRCHER ZEITUNG 27.10.1998 (Kulturnotizen: Cultural Exchange)

(…) Cultural exchange. The "memory" of the rooms becoming flesh and blood, so to speak.

DER BUND 5.11.1998 (ssr: Dance-Architecture "A dance encounter" at the Swiss Institute, Rome)

(…) Borromini has already shown the Romans how to make architecture come alive. However how is one to make architecture dance? This is precisely the task which choreographer Phillippe Olza set himself. In his production "Madame Monsieur" he casts the Villa Maraini as protagonist. Surrounded on all sides by the audience Olza has succeeded in creating a choreographic poem in the rooms of the Swiss Institute, a poem which derives its lyricism from the unusually strong expressive force of the dancers.

LE TEMPS 17-18.10 (S.R.L.: Madame Monsieur and their villa)

(…) To explore the Villa Maraini through dance, even casting the villa itself in the foremost role. This is director Philippe Olza's ambitious project. The performance in Rome is destined to be the first of a series of performances exploring significant architectural monuments in various European cities. This work is of course the director's personal contribution to a European dynamic. Equally it reflects the view that Switzerland forms part of this dynamic.

AARGAUER ZEITUNG 26.10.1998 (Eva Bucher: how rooms speak to the dancers)

(…) Last weekend "Madame Monsieur" played for three days to a highly appreciative audience of Swiss and Romans. Dance and music become enmeshed - in a spatial sense as well.

TUTTO DANZA ROMA Anno XXII, N° 4, Winter 1998 (Alberto Testa: "Madame Monsieur" a special evening in Rome)

(…) At the Villa Maraini they know how to entertain guests with great panache thanks in no small part to the abilities of an exceptional clown, master of ceremonies and artistic director: Philippe Olza, a former dancer with Maurice Béjart.

NEUE LUZERNER ZEITUNG 12.11.1998 (Eva Bucher: When rooms start to dance)

(…) The Swiss and the Romans are bewitched by "Madame Monsieur". The rooms become a dancing, subjective exploration of "reality" until finally the heart of the building reveals itself.
