Anna Bürgi - Dancer


Born in Aarberg, Berne, she now lives in Zürich. Following her studies in German and English Literature she trained as a dancer at the London Contemporary Dance School. She has danced with, among others, the Neumarkt Theater Zürich in "Die Schwarze Spinne" and at the Opernhaus Zürich in "Simplicius". In 1999 she founded anna's kollektiv www.annaskollektiv.ch, a platform for cooperation among artists from various fields, e.g. dancers, architects, filmmakers. annas kollektiv was responsible for several projects, e.g. "three cities - four bodies" at the Architecture Symposium Pontresina, "Treibstoff" at the Tanzhaus Wasserwerk Zürich, "Minus 4°" at the Kunstszene Zürich and at the EXPO 02 (Swiss National Exhibition) in Biel, Switzerland. She works both as a dancer and choreographer with annas kollektiv. She has also worked for a considerable period of time as an English teacher. Furthermore she was assistant director of the Tanzhaus Wasserwerk in Zürich.


Lucy Nightingale - Dancer


Born in Great Britain she now lives in Geneva. Training at the Royal Ballet School of London. She made her début in 1987 with the Ballet de Vichy (with Jorge Donn and Kevin Haigen). In 1989 she joined the Béjart Ballet Lausanne, soon to be cast by Maurice Béjart in ballets such as "The Ring of Wagner", "Freia", "Firebird", "Pyramides", "The Rites of Spring", "Mallarmé III", "Boléro". Béjart also created roles for her in "Hamlet" and "Charlie Chaplin". She also participated in productions by the Company Linga before joining the Ballet of the Stadttheater in Berne. In the course of a programme with various guest choreographers she first worked under the direction of Philippe Olza in "La Création du monde" by Darius Milhaud. She subsequently pursued her career at the Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève dancing in the ballets of William Forsythe, Ohad Naharin, Twyla Tharp, Amanda Miller, Lionel Hoche, Pascal Riout, Michel Kelemenis and Etienne Frey. She has participated in previous performances of "Madame Monsieur" in Prague, Avignon and Bergen respectively.


Isabelle Pipard- Dancer


Born in Paris where she still lives. Training at the Centre International de Danse de Paris and further studies e.g. with Carolyn Carlson, Dominique Duzinsky, Christine Kono, Peter Goos, and Pierre Doussaint. Voice training with the Royart group and singing at the Conservatoire de Musique de Paris. In 2002 she acquired her Teaching Diploma Diplôme d’Etat (DE) in contemporary dance. She has worked with Myriam Dooge and Dominique Hervieux (Café de la danse, Paris), the Compagnie Icosaèdre, the Compagnie Borderline with Enrique Pardo, the Compagnie Quazar and with the Compagnie Myriam Hervé Gil. Directed by Jean-Louis Martinoty she danced in the opera "Alceste" by Lully in the Théâtre de Versailles, the Théâtre des Champs Elysées and the Théâtre de Montpellier. André Engel's production of Horvath's "Geschichten aus dem Wienerwald" in the Théâtre MC93. Vidéo-Danse and tour of Scandinavia with the Compagnie Susanne Epstein.


Bennie Bartels - Dancer


Born in Vierlinksbeegk (NL), he lives in Amsterdam. Trained in ballet and modern dance in New York and Amsterdam. He has received several scholarships, among others for the Gulbenkain course in England. He also trained as a tango dancer in Buenos Aires and at SCUT (Scandinavian Post Academic University) and at the GITIS (Russian Academy of Theatre). 1987-1989 he was a member of the Rotterdam Dance Company. He then worked with the Shusaku Dormu Dance Theatre, the Peter Bulcean Company and Lalala Human Steps (Canada and world tours). 1993-1997 he was a member of the Pretty Ugly Dance Company with Amanda Miller. He worked with the Amsterdam Musictheatreproduction with Min Tanaka, Karel Appel und Pierre Audi. He is co-founder of the group OCHO. Several performances at the Edinburgh Festival. Has also worked on the dance-video project "Tangothriller". As a tango teacher and dancer he commutes between Europe and Argentina. He has been studying Philosophy at the University of Amsterdam since 1999.


Affetti Ardenti - Ensemble for Baroque Music


The ensemble was founded in 1992 and aims to render baroque music accessible to a new audience. Voice, flute, viola da gamba and harpsichord permit a faithful interpretation of the music of the époque. which is especially faithful to its dramatic aspects. The name Affetti Ardenti was in fact associated in 17th century Italy with the concept of particularly expressive passionate music. The ensemble in its new constellation is composed of musicians who have known one another since their student days at the Music Conservatory in Zürich and the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. Their repertoire comprises compositions by Claudio Monteverdi, Giulio Caccini, Girolamo Frescobaldi, Henry Purcell and many others.


Sara Maurer - Mezzo Soprano


Maurer lives in Zürich. Born in Sion she was interested in dance and movement from an early age. Her artistic training commenced in earnest at the Scuola Teatro Dimitri. As a comedian she most notably appeared at the Théâtre Populaire Romand in the productions "Par dessus bords" by M. Vinaver and "Princesse Brambilla" by E.T.H Hoffmann. At the Théâtre de Vidy in Lausanne she featured in "La Belle Hélène" de J. Hoffenbach. She then took Master classes in voice at the Conservatoire de Musique de Genève with U. Buckel, D. Hall and G. Linos. Following this she became a member of the Basler Madrigalisten. She plays the leading role in the "Gilgamesh Epos", original music by Peter Sigrist and devotes her time principally to old music, singing and improvisation e.g. with Alfred Zimmerlin and Christoph Gallio. She is remarkable for her capacity to cross artistic boundaries experimenting with drama, sculpture and dance. A founding member of Affetti Ardenti she has taken part in all stages of "Madame Monsieur" to date.


Alain Bertschy - Tenor


Both Swiss and Belgian citizen he lives in Fribourg. Trained at the Basle Music Academy under Kurt Widmer. He attended courses with Margreet Hinig in Amsterdam. He has received scholarships from the Ernst Göhner Foundation among others. He has worked with Louis Langrée, Michel Corboz, Gabriel Garrido, Jésus Lopes-Cobos, Johnatan Darlington, Edmond Colomer and Michael Hofstetter. He has sung with the Ensembles Seminario Musicale, La Fenice, Ensemble 415 and the chamber orchestras of Lausanne, Geneva and Zürich. He has had engagements at among others, the Opéra de Lausanne, opera houses in Massy, Amiens and Avignon singing in e.g. "Ariane in Naxos" by Strauss and Monteverdi' s "Orfeo". He is much sought after as a soloist for oratorios e.g. "Mozart's Requiem", "King Davis" by Honegger, "Dixit Dominus" and "Nisi Dominus" by Händel (conducted by Michel Corboz). He also appeared as soloist in Haydn's "Theresienmesse" conducted by Howard Griffiths. Festivals in Thoronet and La Chaise-Dieu. His repertoire extends to include works from the 21st century.


Margarete Kopelent - Harpsichord


Resident in Zürich. Born in Cracow she studied piano and harpsichord at the Cracow Conservatorium under Prof. Ludwog Stefanski and Elzbieta Stefanska-Lukowicz. Moved to Switzerland in 1984 where she continued her training to concert level at the Zürich Conservatorium taking master classes in harpsichord with Johann Sonnleitner. Further studies at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basle with Andreas Staier und Jesper Christensen. Recordings for radio and television. Appearances at several international music festivals in Brazil, Germany and Switzerland. Margarete Kopelent is actively involved with the Musikkollegium of Wintherthur. A founding member of Affetti Ardenti, she performs ancient and modern music both as soloist and member of chamber orchestras. She lectures at the Zürich Conservatorium. She has taken part in all performances of "Madame Monsieur" to date.


Detmar Leertouwer - Cello


Born in Rotterdam, lives in Basle. In addition to his studies at the Music Conservatorium in Arnhems he trained in ballet. He studied cello and piano at the Music Academy in Utrecht followed by classes with Jane Cowan at the International Cello Centre in Scotland and with S. Wijsman in Rochester (USA). Private lessons in baroque cello with Hedemi Suzuki. Diploma as a soloist under Phoebe Carrai and Pieter Wispelweij. As a Fulbright scholar he studied with Christophe Coin in Boston for three years. He has played in various ensembles such as Musica Antiqua Cologne, Concerto Cologne, Wiener Akademie, Salzburger Hofmusik and Le concert des nations. He has worked with René Jacobs, Martin Haselböck, Ketil Haugsand and Jordi Saval. As a soloist he played in "L’Orfeo" baroque orchestra with Michi Gaigg. In 1994 he was a finalist in the Wassenaer Competition Amsterdam. He has been giving a class in baroque cello at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik, Trossingen (Germany) since 2000.


Matthias Buschle - Dramaturgy


He lives in Basle. Born in Laupheim, Baden-Württemberg. Cultural Studies and Theory of Education in Tübingen and Dublin universities. Has designed and implemented several theatre and museum projects for children with different institutions. Has worked with a number of museums, among others the Werkbundarchiv (now Museum der Dinge) in Berlin and at the Württembergisches Landesmuseum in Stuttgart. Has been working at the Museum für Gestaltung in Basel since 2001. Writes occasional reviews for various newspapers and publications.


Tomi Kohler - Lighting Design


Born in Basle. Works as a freelance theatre technician, lighting designer and production manager. Worked as technician in the Theater Kaserne, Basle from 1998-2001 working for example with the Schaubühne, Berlin - Sasha Waltz, Théâtre Les Bouffes du Nord - Peter Brook, Théâtre du Soleil - Ariane Mnouchkine. Freelance since 2001 e.g. with Cirqu’en Flex, Théâtre Festival Basle (now Welt in Basel), Dani Wahl and for the Swiss national exibition EXPO 02.


Martin Müller - Costume Design


Born in Hannover, he lives in Basle. Qualification as window designer & decorator. He worked freelance as props manager with Südwestfunk Baden-Baden (television) among others. From 1989 to 2001 he was employed by the Theater Basel. Has worked with Christoph Marthaler, Herbert Wernicke, Sebastian Nübling and Joachim Schlömer. In 2001 he was responsible for sets and costume for Zoltán Dani’s choreographies based on Dostoyevsky's "The Idiot" - Stadttheater Giessen and "Schweiss" (Compagnie Treff Basel), at the Theater Roxy Birsfelden. Works freelance with the Bahnhof für neue Musik at the Badischer Bahnhof Basle - Gare du Nord www.garedunord.ch. Designed and made costumes for the Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte di Montepulciano in the summer of 2002 with Stefanie Pasterkamp.


Ursula Leuenberger - Costume Design


Born in Berne, she now lives in Basle. She first trained as a dressmaker and subsequently as costume designer at the Frauenfachschule Zürich. She worked with the Swiss DRS Television, Theater Basel and at the Bayreuth Festspiele in 1996-1997. From 1997 to 2000 she was costumes assistant at the Theater Basel. Since 2000 she has worked as costume designer e.g. for "Die Ladenhüter", directed by Raphael Sanchez-Theaterhaus Jena, "Translucence", directed by Udo van Ooyen-Zeughaus 5 Zürich, "Supermarket", directed by Matthias Günther-Theater Basel. She has also worked with the Roxy Theatre, e.g. with the Dance Ensemble Cathy Sharp.


Agnes Weidkuhn - Mask Design


Born and resident in Basle. Has designed costumes for theatre (e.g. Od Theater Basel -H.-D. Jendreyko, Schauspielhaus Zürich), dance (Joachim Schlömer TanzTheater Basel, Zap Ensemble), for many shows and performances in Switzerland, Germany and Italy. Agnes Weidkuhn has already collaborated with Philippe Olza on several different productions e.g. "Les Appétits variés d’Adelheid Z", at the Kaserne Basel / "Imagine", International Trade Fair Orbit Basel. She is a founding member of Werkraum Warteck pp in Basle (a former industrial complex which is now an arts co-operative). She is a key figure in the development of the concept "Madame Monsieur" and was especially involved as costume designer and advisor to the first stage of the project at the Villa Maraini in Rome (Swiss Institute).


Roosa Johanna Seppänen - Assistent


Born in Pieksämäki, Finland, she now lives in Basle. Training as a dancer in Kupio from 1988, further training at CNSMD Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Lyon. 1992 High school Diploma in Finland. Further training in acting, tai chi, voice, composition and Alexander technique. 1997 Master of Dance. Worked at the Helsinki City Theatre. Recently choreographer and dancer in “Zodiac” by Karl-Heinz Stockhausen, in cooperation with Basle Music Academy. She also works as assistant and organizer for several dance festivals.


Beatrix Révész - Public Relations


Born in Budapest, she spent her childhood years in Berne and now lives in Basle. Studied languages and arts in Madrid, New York and Florence. Set up Galerie 17 at Klosterberg, Basle. Has acted as consultant to various insurance companies, banks and private collectors in the field of interior design and art collection. Public relations e.g. for Compagnie Treff at the Roxy theatre, Birsfelden.


Peter Keller Art Consulting Basel - Administration


As an independent arts consultant Peter Keller works primarily in the field of music and the performing arts. In the last nine years he has worked on numerous projects in Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Italy and the Czech Republic. As organiser and coordinator he is responsible for the entire infrastructure, logistics and artistic management for the Menuhin Festival in Gstaad, (40 performances over 7 weeks) and "Les muséiques", the museum music festival in Basle with over 25 performances over seven days. Public lectures in the history of music at the University of St Gallen. In Basle producer on various projects, for Theater Gare du Nord, Bahnhof für neue Musik, among others.
