TWO MEN AND A CELLO 1999 - 2001
Matthias Hermann Ibach & Philippe Olza
This polyglot performance from nowhere and everywhere resulted from a meeting with the musician Matthias Hermann Ibach. The two men have found a common language in this poetic project, which they continue to develop. TWO MEN AND A CELLO is a fusion of dance and music, of German, English, French and Italian. Ibach’s typical Lieder repertoire meets Olza’s performance art and is supplemented by texts and original musical compositions.
The two are at home everywhere. They talk of those they have met, those they have yet to meet and those they would like to meet. Full of curiosity the two explore the performance venue making it the actual theme of the performance e.g.
• the modern architecture of the Le Corbusier pavilion in Paris
• the old foyer of the city theatre in Plzen (CZ)
• the Roman basilica in El Kef / Tunisia
• the vaults of the ancient Tahar Haddad stables in the Medina in Tunis
• the socio-cultural centre Werkraum Warteck pp in Basle
• the neo- rococo Villa Maraini in Rome
• and further theatres and festivals
